About the Role
Trafford has a large and growing community of British National (Overseas) families it is estimated by Trafford Council that over 800 have settled here in the last year. To respond to their needs Gorse Hill Studios are looking to recruit a Youth Support Worker to support the delivery creative integration projects which use the arts to promote friendship which:
- enable British National (Overseas) children to be part of British society, provide a positive contribution to the areas in which they settle, both economically and socially, and be able to mix confidently with people of all backgrounds
- ensure that BN(O) children and their families understand their rights and entitlements and are aware of services available to them
- ensure that emotional wellbeing needs of the BN(O) visa holders and their families are met and that they feel safe and welcome
Salary: £15 per hr dependent upon experience. Position subject to the continued availability of sufficient funding. In the absence of funding, your employment will cease with appropriate notice.
Hours: Varied/ Part time. Work may take place Monday -Friday, includes weekends and evening work, additional hours as and when required. To be agreed.
Person Specification
Training Quals & Method of Essential Desirable
Experience assessment
A qualification in Youth Work Level 3 (desirable),
Arts qualifications or experience (desirable)
Basic safeguarding training (desirable)
or an equivalent qualification
Experience & Knowledge
- At least one years’ experience in a participatory group work role working with young people aged 8-16 years.
- Proven commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of young people.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to form, develop and sustain relationships with young people
- Ability to facilitate groups and work one to one with young people.
- Ability to plan and deliver programmes of work.
- Ability to monitor, record and evaluate practice.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office and database applications
- Good spoken English and also fluent or native in Cantonese.
- Understand the current BN(O) visa scheme & policies.
- Knowledge of English of Cantonese/Hongkongers services available locally/regionally/nationally
- Good communication and presentation skills to a range of audiences and in diverse forms
Special Conditions
- Unsocial hours/weekend work will be required
- DBS required
- Willing and able to travel to other offsite venues as and when required.
